Nicolas Tobis
Director of Data Science | Bertelsmann, Inc.I’m originally from Hamburg, Germany and came to New York for an internship at the German media company Bertelsmann. I was originally going to stay for 5 months, and now I’ve been here for close to 5 years!
I didn’t immediately start working in tech, but in finance at the Bertelsmann Education Group, a company that invests into e-learning businesses, such as Udacity and Coursera. After three years, however, I was ready to learn something new, and so I pursued a master’s degree in Computer Science in London, UK. After graduating, I returned to the Education Group in New York, but this time as a Director of Data Science. In this role I lead a Data Science team and serve on Bertelsmann’s Data and Tech Advisory Board.
When I’m not building neural networks in Python at work, I play soccer, field hockey and tennis in my free time.
